PANTOGRAPH

THE LOUDSPEAKER

In cooperation with Filip Pražák

HOUSING AND MATERIALIZATION: closed, made of titanium (unalloyed titanium, Grade 2) for the monolith and stainless steel for the resonance semi-hollow sphere (both lined inside with viscoelastic AMPACK IDIKELL M4001/05 havy foil, 10 kg/m2), with leather cover (Fine Scottish Leather) and contrast stitching, diffraction felt in tetrahedral geometry around the speaker chassis

CHASSIS: 2-way loudspeaker: horn super tweeter; the highest grade horn super tweeter with a newly developed ring-shaped pure magnesium diaphragm, a horn and equalizer made of precision-machined solid brass, and an Alnico magnet internal magnetic circuit with a low distortion design; 7 kHz - 40 kHz; Net Weight 5150 g | premium-craft bass-midrange; the diaphragm material has been newly optimized for use in 16cm bass-midranges, using a paper extract that forms a three-dimensional structure by combining fiber-based materials; Alnico magnets are used in the magnetic circuit, in addition, a copper cap is placed on the pole piece; fs to 7 kHz; Net Weight 4200 g

EXTERNAL CROSSOVER: capacitors, inductors and resistors are visibly mounted on the copper base, which completely separates the crossover from the large pressure differences and residual energy inside the loudspeaker, -12dB/oct, all components from Duelund Coherent Audio (Capacitors Duelund Black Series Copper, Inductors Duelund CAST 8 AWG, Resistors Duelund CAST)

BINDING POST: Cardas CPBP KAE single black anodized aluminum knob binding post

MEASUREMENTS: 88 dB @ 1 Watt @ 1 Meter @ 1 kHz; Nominal Impedance 8 Ohm / Minimum 7.500 Ohm @ 230.000 Hz

DIMENSION AND WEIGHT: Height 1080 mm; width 480 mm; depth 120 mm / 555 mm; system weight per channel 37 kg

MANUFACTURE: Housing: Goldau-Switzerland, Liberec-Czech Republic, Frauenfeld-Switzerland | Copper parts: Muotathal-Switzerland | Upholstery work: Liberec-Czech Republic | Loudspeaker chassis: Northampton-UK, Akishima-Japan | Inductors: Fredensborg-Denmark | Capacitors: Fredensborg-Denmark | Resistors: Fredensborg-Denmark | Cables: Saco-USA, Altdorf-Switzerland | Speaker terminals: Bandon-USA | Assembly: Zürich-Switzerland, Brunnen-Switzerland

The PANTOGRAPH is a synthesis of fine art, ship building, and above all cutting edge mathematical science with a balance of form and proportion that is derived from golden ratio, prime numbers and Fibonacci sequence geometry: the natural laws of physics and mathematics at the heart of its design.

Product language: the loudspeaker consists of 3 components; the chassis carrier formed from a monolith, the resonator form a spherical segment and the base plate. A 2-way system with a massive horn super tweeter and a unique premium-craft bass-midrange is installed in the monolith.

According to Jean Hiraga, “conteporary loudspeakers” almost always have, at least on paper, everything you need to reproduce sounds of any kind: A frequency range of 20 Hz ro 20 KHz; correct phase response; low hamonic and intermodulation distortion at low an high levels; impetance response almost like an ohmic resistor; perfect impulse response; unproblematic power consumption and sensitivity; linear relationship between electrical energy input and acoustic energy output and a resonance-free cabinet that knows neither edge reflections nor parasitic vibrations and standing waves.

The realities of the market cast these qualities in a different, more theoretical light: restrictions on size, weight and price determine the apperance of the typical loudspeaker. The developer’s field of action is correspondingly narrower.

If bandwith and spectral balance are the most important parameters for correct sound color reproduction, other factores also influence the final result: dynamic capabilities; low distortion at higher power levels; low and well-controlled directivity. The interplay of these factores is different for every loudspeaker and determines ity very special sound.

The factors for spectral balance in the PANTOGRAPH are realized by de selection of the special super-tweeter horn and the unique bass-midrange driver as well as the materialization of the elaborately constructed cabinet, which is made of titanium (for the monolith) and stainless steel (for the resonance semi-hollow sphere) as well as an inner lining of heavy foil and outer absoption of leather.

Our skilled artisans use time honored techniques that have been handed down through generations to produce something that modern engineering and mass production simply cannot replicate. There are very few metal worker in the world today who produce work of this quality and detail.
